Napalm Death
Biography
Napalm Death is an English grindcore band from the Midlands and the true founding act of the genre. Formed in 1981, it pushed speed, brevity and aggression to the extreme, popularizing the blast beat under drummer Mick Harris. Its early albums, Scum (1987) and From Enslavement to Obliteration (1988), are absolute reference points, while the track You Suffer entered the record books as one of the shortest songs ever recorded. Since the arrival of vocalist Barney Greenway, the band has combined sonic brutality with outspoken political and social commitment. Still prolific, Napalm Death remains the guiding figure of grindcore and a decisive influence on the whole of extreme metal and hardcore.
