Napalm Death ist eine englische Grindcore-Band aus den Midlands und die eigentliche Gründungsinstanz des Genres. 1981 entstanden, trieb sie Tempo, Kürze und Aggression auf die Spitze und machte den Blastbeat unter Schlagzeuger Mick Harris populär. Ihre frühen Alben Scum (1987) und From Enslavement to Obliteration (1988) sind absolute Referenzen, während das Stück You Suffer als einer der kürzesten je aufgenommenen Songs in die Annalen einging. Seit dem Einstieg von Sänger Barney Greenway verbindet die Band klangliche Brutalität mit deutlichem politischem und sozialem Engagement. Nach wie vor produktiv, bleibt Napalm Death die prägende Leitfigur des Grindcore und ein entscheidender Einfluss auf den gesamten Extreme Metal und Hardcore.
