Kyuss

Biography

Kyuss is an American stoner rock band from Palm Desert, California, formed in 1987. Pioneers of desert rock, its members, including guitarist Josh Homme, singer John Garcia and drummer Brant Bjork, forged their sound at wild open air generator parties out in the desert. Their music blends heavy, downtuned riffs, hypnotic groove and warm, sandy atmospheres. The albums Blues for the Red Sun (1992) and Welcome to Sky Valley (1994) are considered cornerstones of the genre. Although the band split in 1995, its influence is immense: Josh Homme went on to found Queens of the Stone Age, carrying forward the legacy of this legendary Californian scene and its sun baked, groove driven vision of heavy music.
