Biography

Coming out of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and formed in the late 1990s, Taproot was quickly regarded as one of the most gifted hopes of its generation. The band stands out for a more melodic and introspective take on nu metal, combining clean singing, heavier passages and carefully crafted atmospheres. Their album Gift (2000) laid the groundwork, before Welcome (2002) brought them to a wider audience thanks to standout singles. Often praised for their sense of nuance and their personal lyrics, they managed to exist beyond the simple codes of the scene at the time. Across their records, Taproot maintained a coherent identity, alternating intensity and sensitivity with genuine consistency.
