Biography
Saint Vitus is an American doom metal band founded in Los Angeles in 1978, one of the true founding fathers of the genre in the United States. Led by guitarist Dave Chandler, it developed a slow, heavy and bleak sound directly inherited from Black Sabbath yet marked by a desolation all its own. The arrival of singer Scott Weinrich, known as Wino, was a turning point, especially on the album Born Too Late (1986), now an absolute doom classic. Signed to the punk label SST, the band spent years running against prevailing trends, scorned in its time before being recognized much later. Saint Vitus is revered today as a cornerstone of doom metal, a symbol of authenticity and defiance.
