Oasis
Biography
Oasis is a British rock band from Manchester. Formed in 1991 and initially named The Rain, the group originally consisted of Liam Gallagher (vocals), Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs (guitar), Paul 'Guigsy' McGuigan (bass) and Tony McCarroll (drums), soon joined by Noel Gallagher (lead guitar and vocals), Liam's older brother. It is considered one of the main representatives of the Britpop genre, a subgenre of alternative rock. Oasis is often cited as a source of inspiration by many bands, both past and present, such as Coldplay, The Libertines, The Strokes, The Killers, Snow Patrol and Arctic Monkeys. Oasis signed with the independent label Creation Records in 1993 and released its debut album, Definitely Maybe, in 1994. The following year, as a rivalry emerged with the band Blur, Oasis recorded (What's the Story) Morning Glory?
