Nomeansno

Biography

Nomeansno, also stylized NoMeansNo, is a Canadian hardcore punk band originating from Victoria, British Columbia. The group was formed in 1979 by brothers Rob (bass, vocals) and John Wright (drums, keyboards, vocals). Rob Wright is the band's primary songwriter and lyricist. The name 'Nomeansno' (No means No) is derived from a campaign against rape. Initially, the group drew from progressive rock and jazz as much as from punk rock, which is why their music is sometimes described as jazz-punk. Nomeansno is sometimes credited with having a decisive influence on the emergence of math rock.
