Mortiis

Biography

Mortiis is a musical project created by Håvard Ellefsen in 1993 and based in Notodden, Norway, near Oslo in Telemark county. Initially, Mortiis was purely and simply a solo project by Håvard Ellefsen, who wanted to convey a story through music. Then, over time, the project slowly transformed into a musical group. Sometimes as a band, sometimes as a solo artist, Håvard Ellefsen is the only constant member of the Mortiis project. This is how the name became both the name of the musical group and the pseudonym of Håvard Ellefsen. Mortiis comes from the Latin mortis meaning "(relating to) death," "mortal," and so on.
