Leviathan

Biography

Leviathan is a one man band project of atmospheric black metal and depressive black metal from the United States, originating from San Francisco, California. Leviathan was formed in 1998 by Jef Whitehead (Wrest) in San Francisco, California. Before the formation of Leviathan, Wrest played in the instrumental rock band Gift Horse between 1991 and 1996. The band's name is a reference to the mythical sea monster of the same name. During the early years of activity, the band released numerous demos before finally releasing its first proper studio album in 2003, The Tenth Sub Level of Suicide. In the following year, in 2004, Leviathan released a second studio album, Tentacles of Whorror, then a third in 2005, A Silhouette in Splinters, which has the distinction of being almost exclusively dark ambient.
