Fugazi

Biography

Fugazi is an American post-hardcore band formed in Washington in 1987. It brings together Ian MacKaye, a former member of Minor Threat, Guy Picciotto on vocals and guitar, Joe Lally on bass and Brendan Canty on drums. The band is renowned for its do it yourself ethic, its cheap concert tickets and its refusal of major record labels, releasing its music on the independent label Dischord Records. Its discography includes Repeater (1990), In on the Kill Taker (1993), Red Medicine (1995) and The Argument (2001). On extended hiatus since 2003, Fugazi has had a considerable influence on the post-hardcore, punk and independent scenes, embodying a model of artistic independence and consistency between words and practice.
