Filter

Biography

Founded in Cleveland in 1993 by Richard Patrick, a former touring guitarist for Nine Inch Nails, Filter belong to the lineage of American industrial rock and alternative metal. The band made its name with its debut album, Short Bus (1995), driven by the incendiary single Hey Man Nice Shot. Filter alternate abrasive tracks with more melodic songs, as shown by the album Title of Record (1999) and its single Take a Picture, a gentler and more introspective hit. Around Patrick's recognisable voice, the group explore the tension between electric aggression and pop sensibility. Despite regular line-up changes, Filter have pursued a lasting career, staying faithful to a marriage of heavy guitars and electronic textures.
