Clara Clara

Biography

Clara-Clara is a monumental sculpture by American artist Richard Serra, created in 1983. Commissioned by the Georges-Pompidou center, the sculpture was installed in Paris in the Tuileries Garden in 1983, then in the Choisy park from 1985 to 1990. Since that date, it has been dismantled and stored in a warehouse, being briefly reinstalled only once, in 2008. Clara-Clara consists of two long parabolas of Corten steel, each measuring 36 meters long, 3.40 meters high and 4.5 centimeters thick. These two curves are meant to rest on the ground along their greatest length and, once assembled, form a sort of large "X" whose branches are separated from one another: at their closest point, they remain approximately 2 meters apart. The two curves are not completely vertical, but slightly inclined relative to each other.
