Cardiacs

Biography

Cardiacs is a British rock band from Kingston upon Thames, Greater London, England. It was formed in 1977 by two brothers: Tim and Jim Smith, under the initial name of Cardiac Arrest. Their musical style combines a wide range of musical genres and has often been described as 'pronk', a contraction of progressive and punk, although singer Tim Smith prefers simply the term psychedelic or pop. Their music is supported by Smith's singular vocals and poetic and cryptic lyrics. Their stage performances are distinguished by their theatrical dimension, marked by the use of baroque costumes and elaborate makeup. According to music magazine Organ, 'a single song by Cardiacs can contain enough ideas for the entire career of most other bands'.
