Alcest

Biography

Alcest is a French post-black metal and blackgaze band from Bagnols-sur-Cèze. Founded in 2000 by Neige (Stéphane Paut) as a solo project rooted in black metal, it quickly became the birthplace of a new sound blending metal's ferocity with the warmth of shoegaze and post-rock. The debut album, Souvenirs d'un autre monde (2007), laid the groundwork for this luminous, melancholy style. Drummer Winterhalter joined in 2009 to form a settled duo, which has since released landmark records such as Écailles de Lune, Les Voyages de l'âme, Shelter, Kodama and Les Chants de l'Aurore.
