Os Bad Brains são uma banda pioneira de Washington, formada em 1977 por quatro músicos afro-americanos vindos do jazz-fusão. Ao misturar um hardcore punk de velocidade fulgurante com incursões reggae, sustentada pelo canto possuído de H.R., revolucionou o género desde o álbum Bad Brains (1982) até I Against I (1986). A sua influência sobre o punk, o hardcore e o metal alternativo é tida como maior e duradoura.
