Death
Biography
Death is an American band regarded as the father of death metal, founded in 1983 in Florida by guitarist and singer Chuck Schuldiner, the brain and only constant of the group. Primitively brutal at first on Scream Bloody Gore (1987), often cited as the first true death metal album, the band evolved toward increasingly technical and thoughtful writing. Leprosy (1988) and Spiritual Healing (1990) refined the sound, while Human (1991) and Symbolic (1995) brought a complexity close to progressive metal and more introspective themes. The vision of a demanding, pioneering artist, Death constantly pushed the boundaries of the genre. Schuldiner death in 2001 left an immense and deeply revered legacy that still shapes extreme metal today.
