Ill Nino’s debut, Revolution Revolucion, laid down the New Jersey band’s signature as early as 2001, a nu metal shot through with percussion and Latin rhythms. The twin drumming and the congas give the sound an organic pulse few acts on the scene dared to attempt at the time, while Cristian Machado alternates melodic clean singing with furious screams.
Tracks like What Comes Around and Unreal distill this approach, between heavy riffs and acoustic breathers marked by a proudly claimed South American heritage. The production stays raw at times and the writing still lacks depth across the full length, yet the identity is already there, distinctive. It is this embraced blend, more than any technical feat, that makes the record a reference point of early two thousands nu metal.
