Taake
Biography
Taake is a Norwegian black metal band from Bergen, essentially the solo vehicle of the musician Hoest. Formed in 1993 under the name Thule, it took on the name Taake, meaning fog in the local dialect, in 1998. Singing exclusively in Norwegian, Hoest celebrates the landscapes and identity of his native Hordaland region. The debut album, Nattestid ser porten vid (1999), became a classic of second wave Norwegian black metal. Over Bjoergvin graater himmerik and Hordaland doedskvad followed, praised for their rich songwriting and genuinely Nordic atmosphere. A figure at once respected and controversial, Hoest has kept Taake fiercely independent, and it remains one of the most singular names in the Norwegian scene.
