P.O.D.
Biography
Formed in 1992 in San Diego, California, P.O.D. (short for Payable on Death) blended rap metal, reggae and hardcore energy with an openly spiritual identity. Led by singer Sonny Sandoval, they stand out for luminous choruses and hopeful lyrics, running counter to the nihilism common in the genre. After a breakthrough with The Fundamental Elements of Southtown, it was the album Satellite, released in 2001, that carried them internationally thanks to tracks that became emblematic, including an anthem about youth. Faithful to their Californian roots and their message, they drew a diverse audience beyond metal circles alone, and remain a reference point of 2000s rap metal.
