Band
Korn
Biography
Korn is an American band widely regarded as the pioneer of nu metal. Formed in 1993 in Bakersfield, California, it brings together vocalist Jonathan Davis, guitarists James Munky Shaffer and Brian Head Welch, and bassist Reginald Fieldy Arvizu. Their sound pairs low-tuned, downtuned guitars, slapped bass and hip-hop rhythms with vocals that swing between rage, whisper and raw personal distress. The album Korn (1994) invented a new aesthetic, while Follow the Leader (1998) and its single Freak on a Leash brought worldwide success. Through their influence, Korn opened the door for a whole generation of bands and redefined metal at the close of the 1990s.
